NORTHLAKE MALL FOR SALE

Liam Vang, a 14-year-old from Cabarrus County, has launched AllerScan, a new smartphone app helping people manage food allergies with ease.

The app, now available on the Apple App Store and coming soon to Google Play, allows users to quickly scan product barcodes and check for allergens.

Inspired by his own struggles with a peanut allergy, Vang created AllerScan to simplify the often stressful process of checking food labels.

Users customize their profiles with specific allergens; scanning a barcode instantly reveals if a product is safe to eat.

The app even offers directions to the nearest emergency room if a risky product is detected.

Vang’s innovation joins Charlotte’s growing movement toward allergy-friendly options, such as Seemingly Overzealous in Dilworth and groups like Parents of Allergic Kids (PAK).

His work is creating a safer, more inclusive community for those with food allergies.

Charlotte stands at the forefront of the remote work movement, with over 21% of workers embracing home offices in 2023—making it the fifth-highest major metro for telecommuting in the U.S.

This transition has brought notable gains in well-being, as residents benefit from reclaimed time and lower stress.

The average Charlotte commuter saves nearly an hour each day, unlocking opportunities for more sleep, family time, and personal pursuits.

Employers have responded with hybrid models, which boost morale and sustain performance when offered as a choice.

Charlotte’s remote work wave has also powered economic growth.

New businesses like The Social Cow and Serengeti Kitchen at The Market at 7th Street reflect the city’s ingenuity and diversity, while modern co-working spaces—such as The Line in South End—meet the demand for flexible, collaborative environments.

Charlotte’s flexible work culture is enriching lives and strengthening the local economy.

AT&T is making a bold policy shift, requiring all office-based employees nationwide to return to in-person work five days a week starting January 2025.

This move ends the previous hybrid model and aims to boost collaboration and team innovation.

AT&T is also consolidating operations into nine central office hubs, including Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Seattle, Washington, D.C., San Ramon, St. Louis, and two in New Jersey.

For Charlotte employees, this means choosing between relocating to a hub or exploring other job options as local offices close.

CEO John Stankey stresses that in-person work strengthens relationships and team performance, but some workers have raised concerns about crowded offices and resource shortages.

AT&T vows to enhance facilities as it implements this controversial return-to-office strategy.
