Charlotte SHOUT! Is Charlotte's New Go-To Spot for Art and Entertainment |
The beloved Uptown festival returns with interactive installations, live music, and experiences you won't find anywhere else in the Queen City |
There's something magical happening in Uptown Charlotte this spring.
Charlotte SHOUT! has returned, and it's transforming the heart of the Queen City into an interactive playground of art, music, and imagination. Presented by Charlotte Center City Partners, this beloved festival runs through April 19, 2026, offering locals and visitors alike a chance to experience Charlotte in a completely new way.
If you haven't been yet, you're missing out on what might be the most Instagram-worthy event of the year.
Art That Comes Alive
The art installations are the heart and soul of Charlotte SHOUT!
These aren't your typical "look but don't touch" museum pieces. These are massive, interactive works that beg you to step inside, spin them, talk to them, and become part of the art itself.
At Disc Plaza on South Tryon Street, the "Portal to the Imagination" by Jeff Cason transports visitors to other worlds. Press the green button and watch as the portal opens to reveal one of eight randomized destinations. From the depths of the ocean to the furthest reaches of space, you'll never know where you'll end up.
Over at Bank of America Plaza, "Tumbling Textures" by Claire Kiester features three giant orbs made from recycled plastic containers. Give them a spin and you'll be surrounded by a symphony of sounds that rivals a rain stick. It's art you can hear as much as see.
Don't miss "The Oracles" at Wells Fargo Plaza and ImaginOn. These giant inflatable creatures by Dorne Pentes are ready to chat. Ask them anything (well, almost anything), and they'll respond with what can only be described as alien wisdom. Kids are obsessed with these friendly giants.
Music Fills the Streets
Charlotte SHOUT! isn't just about visual art.
The festival features live music performances throughout its run, with something for every taste. From gospel choirs to symphony orchestras, the sounds of Charlotte fill the air.
The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra performed live on The Green, bringing classical music to an outdoor audience. Gospel Sunday at First Ward Park offered soul-stirring performances that had the whole crowd moving.
Local bands and national acts share the stage, creating a musical tapestry that reflects Charlotte's diverse cultural landscape.
Festivals Within the Festival
One of the unique aspects of Charlotte SHOUT! is how it brings together multiple mini-festivals under one umbrella.
The Carolina BBQ Festival at Victoria Yards brought together pitmasters from across the region. The smell of smoked meats wafted through the air as visitors sampled the best barbecue the Carolinas have to offer.
Edge Fest at First Ward Park celebrated the city's creative edge with performances and installations that push boundaries. Charlotte StrEATs Festival combined food and street culture in ways that only Charlotte can.
And for the thinkers, the Charlotte Ideas Festival brought together speakers and thought leaders to discuss the issues shaping our city's future.
Why This Matters for Charlotte
Events like Charlotte SHOUT! do more than entertain.
They put Charlotte on the map as a cultural destination. With 157 people moving to the Charlotte area every single day, festivals like this help newcomers feel connected to their new home. They give locals something to be proud of. They create shared experiences that bind communities together.
The festival also supports local artists, musicians, and vendors. In a time when creative professionals are struggling, Charlotte SHOUT! provides a platform for homegrown talent to shine.
Plus, most events are free. That means everyone can participate, regardless of budget. In a growing city where costs keep rising, that's something worth celebrating.
