Experience adventure, relaxation, and community at this expansive recreational hub

Just a short drive west of Uptown Charlotte, the U.S. National Whitewater Center offers a unique blend of urban accessibility and natural adventure.

Spanning over 1,300 acres, this center provides a diverse range of activities suitable for all ages and skill levels.

At the heart of the center is the world's largest man-made whitewater river, attracting both Olympic-level kayakers and thrill-seeking rafters.

Beyond the rapids, visitors can explore over 45 miles of trails, zip lines, rock climbing walls, and stand-up paddleboarding opportunities.

In July 2024, the center unveiled Wildwoods, an all-ages activity area featuring a treehouse village, obstacle challenges, boulder gardens, and the region's first bike trail exclusively for pedal-free balance bikes.

This addition underscores the center's commitment to providing inclusive outdoor experiences for the community.

For dog owners, the center introduced a 70-acre off-leash dog park in March 2024.

This expansive area includes a 3-mile lake loop trail, a lakefront beach, and an open-air biergarten, creating a welcoming environment for both pets and their owners.

Looking ahead, the Whitewater Center has ambitious plans for expansion over the next decade.

Proposed additions include an indoor climbing facility, an environmental education center, a conference and event facility, and a leadership development center.

These developments aim to further enhance the center's offerings and solidify its status as a premier outdoor destination.

Whether you're seeking adrenaline-pumping adventures or tranquil moments in nature, the U.S. National Whitewater Center provides a dynamic space to connect with the outdoors and the Charlotte community.

Plan your visit today and experience all that this remarkable center has to offer.
