The Fillmore Charlotte Is Charlotte's New Go-To Spot

What to expect, when to go, and how to do it right.

There's something electric happening at The Fillmore Charlotte this season. The iconic music venue in the heart of Midtown has doubled down on its booking strategy, and Charlotte music lovers are reaping the rewards.

If you haven't been lately, you're missing out.

The Lineup This Season Is Stacked

Starting May 3rd, The Fillmore is hosting a run of shows that would make any major city jealous. Glass Animals kick things off with their Dreamland tour. Then Phoenix rolls through on May 10th. Portugal. The Man closes out the month on May 24th.

That's three massive indie acts in one month. In Charlotte. At a venue that holds just 2,000 people.

The intimacy is the point. You won't find this kind of access in Atlanta or Nashville, where these same bands play arenas.

Why The Fillmore Works So Well

Let's talk about the space itself. The Fillmore Charlotte opened in 2009, but it feels timeless. The chandeliers. The red velvet. The standing room floor that puts you within arm's reach of your favorite artists.

The sound system got a major upgrade last year. Jason Miller, the venue's production manager, told us they invested heavily in new line arrays. The difference is noticeable. Every show sounds crisp, even when the crowd is at capacity.

And the sightlines? There isn't a bad spot in the house. The balcony offers a perfect view for those who prefer to watch from above. The floor is where the energy lives.

Getting There and Getting In

Parking around The Fillmore can be tricky. The venue sits at the corner of Carson Boulevard and Morehead Street, surrounded by offices and apartments. Street parking is limited.

Your best bet is the Target parking garage across the street. It's affordable and usually has spots available. Just don't try to park at the nearby restaurants. They tow aggressively on show nights.

Doors typically open an hour before the listed showtime. If you want to be close to the stage, arrive early. The floor fills up fast, especially for sold-out shows.

The Food and Drink Situation

Inside, you'll find the usual concert venue fare. Beer, wine, basic cocktails. Prices are reasonable for a music venue, which is refreshing. A domestic beer runs about $8. Craft options are available too.

Food options inside are limited to snacks. But here's the thing: The Fillmore is surrounded by great pre-show dining. Duckworth's is right next door. Midwood Smokehouse is a short walk. Not Just Coffee on East Boulevard is perfect for a caffeine boost before an early show.

Our recommendation? Make an evening of it. Grab dinner nearby, then walk over for the show.

Upcoming Shows You Shouldn't Miss

Beyond the May lineup, The Fillmore has some gems scheduled through early June. The War on Drugs play June 7th. Jimmy Eat World returns on June 14th. Both shows are already selling fast.

Tickets for most shows range from $35 to $75 depending on the act. Some VIP packages are available for around $150, which gets you balcony access and a private bar. Worth it if you want to skip the crowds.

Pro tip: Follow The Fillmore Charlotte on Instagram. They announce surprise after-shows and pop-up events that never make it to the main calendar. Last month, they hosted an intimate acoustic set by The National that wasn't advertised anywhere else.

The Bottom Line

The Fillmore Charlotte has become the city's premier mid-sized venue by focusing on what matters: great sound, intimate settings, and consistently strong bookings. It's the kind of place where you can see arena-level acts in a room small enough to feel personal.

If you live in Charlotte and care about live music, this should be your regular spot. The season ahead is proof that the venue is only getting better. Grab tickets while you can.
