Born in Taylorsville, North Carolina, White overcame childhood polio to become a formidable force in stock car racing.
Standing at just 5 feet 4 inches and weighing 135 pounds, he defied expectations, securing 28 victories in 233 starts over a nine-year career.
His 1960 championship season was marked by six wins and 35 top-ten finishes in 40 races, showcasing his remarkable consistency and skill.
White's prowess was particularly evident on short tracks, with notable successes at venues like Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem and North Wilkesboro Speedway.
His final career win came at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1962.
In 2015, White was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the sport's greats.
