Charlotte Prep Unveils State-of-the-Art $13M Lower School Building

A New Chapter Begins After 2023 Fire

Charlotte Preparatory School is set to welcome students into its new $13 million lower school building on August 20. This milestone comes after a devastating fire in June 2023 that destroyed the previous facility.

The new two-story, 24,000-square-foot building is double the size of its predecessor. It features 11 spacious classrooms, each measuring 950 square feet, designed for kindergarten through fourth grade. Additional amenities include a larger, multi-use dining hall and collaborative workspaces to enhance the learning environment.

Head of School Todd Ballaban expressed enthusiasm about the new facility, stating it "demonstrates our commitment to excellence and celebrates our past while preparing our students for the future."

The fire in June 2023 caused approximately $2.5 million in damages. Fortunately, it occurred during summer break, allowing the school to implement temporary modular classrooms without disrupting the academic calendar.

The new building is part of Charlotte Prep's strategic plan to enhance educational facilities. The school community has rallied together, with significant contributions like a $150,000 donation from the Philip L. Van Every Foundation aiding the reconstruction efforts.

As the new academic year approaches, Charlotte Prep stands ready to provide an enriched educational experience in its state-of-the-art facility.
