Carolina Panthers Dismiss Communications Coordinator Over Social Media Post on Charlie Kirk's Assassination |
Team emphasizes zero tolerance for violence following employee's controversial remarks |
Charlotte, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers have terminated their football communications coordinator, Charlie Rock, after he made controversial social media comments regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University. The following day, screenshots circulated online showing Rock posting a photo of Kirk with the caption, “Why are y’all sad? Your man said it was worth it...” and referencing the Wu-Tang Clan song “Protect Ya Neck.”
In response, the Panthers issued a statement on social media platform X, stating, “The views expressed by our employees are their own and do not represent those of the Carolina Panthers. We do not condone violence of any kind. We are taking this matter very seriously and have accordingly addressed it with the individual.”
Shortly thereafter, sources confirmed that Rock was no longer employed by the team. This action underscores the organization's commitment to maintaining a professional and respectful environment, especially in the wake of such a tragic event.
The incident has sparked broader discussions about the responsibilities of public figures and employees in expressing personal views on social media, particularly concerning sensitive and high-profile events. |
