AT&T Data Breach Settlement: Charlotte Customers May Be Eligible for Up to $5,000

Affected individuals in Charlotte can now file claims following AT&T's $177 million settlement over data breaches.

Exclusive

Charlotte residents who are current or former AT&T customers may be entitled to compensation following the company's recent $177 million settlement addressing two significant data breaches.

In 2024, AT&T disclosed two major security incidents. The first, announced in March, involved unauthorized access to data dating back to 2019, affecting over 67 million individuals. The second breach, revealed in July, compromised call and text records of nearly all AT&T cellular customers between May and October 2022.

As part of the settlement, eligible customers can claim compensation for losses directly linked to these breaches. Individuals who can provide documented proof of financial harm may receive up to $5,000. Those without specific documentation may still qualify for tiered cash payments, with amounts determined based on the nature of the data compromised and the number of valid claims submitted.

Notifications to affected customers began on August 4, 2025, and will continue through October 17, 2025. These notifications are being sent via email, text message, postal mail, and in-account alerts for current users. Former customers should monitor their emails and mailing addresses for updates.

To file a claim, customers must submit the necessary forms by November 18, 2025. The official claims process is detailed in the notifications, which include a case number and a link to the claims portal. The process involves logging into the portal, filling out personal and claim information, uploading any required documentation, and submitting the claim before the deadline.

Payments are expected to be distributed in early 2026, pending final court approval scheduled for December 3, 2025. Charlotte residents are encouraged to act promptly upon receiving their notifications to ensure they receive their share of the settlement.

For more information or assistance with the claims process, affected individuals can contact the settlement administrator through the details provided in their notification.
